Drunken Monkeee is the greatest performer alive. We've collaborated for years and have several videos to come out over the next few months, our last was GO BEZERK. But this was a fun clip we shot at several locations including Indiana Dunes, Millennium Park, and some areas in Hyde Park. Drunk is a natural in front of the camera, his antics never seize to amaze me. I also collaborated with another director Subverse Studio's own David Weathersby who took over editing duties for this project. Me and David shot alot of stuff, so much that Drunk thought it was best to put out two videos, peep em both.....ENJOY

PRETTY COOL: TIM BURTON MoMA Exhbition

I grew up on Tim Burton films (Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The first TWO Batmans,...) and have always admired him as a director. He just opened a exhibition in Mid-town Manhattan at MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) that will explore the full scale of of his work both as a director and concept artist for live-action and animated films, and as an artist, illustrator, photographer, and writer. The exhibition will be on view from November 22, 2009 through April 26, 2010. Peep pics below.

I spotted this vid yesterday, I immediately expected it to be uber creative mainly because its directed by Partizan's Nabil, but what I didnt expect was the vid to feature a clip from a film a friend of mine shot in Trinidad about a year ago, called "Lioness of Lisabi" which is an autobiographical tale about Fela Kuti's mother. Im not the one to be all hyped about all the mainstream summer movies coming out, even though I have the release date for Star Trek inked on my calendar. Im more excited to see Tetro the new film from Francis Ford Coppola (Godfather(s), numerous classics) it stars Vincent Gallo who I havent seen act other than in his own films (Buffalo 66, The Brown Bunny). The film is playing at Cannes and will hopefully hit US theatres somewhere amidst all the summer hoopla, or maybe early fall as the fest circuit winds down. Check out the trailer below, ENJOY!

THE NEXT SPIKE JONZE FILM: "Where The Wild Things Are"

The next film from director Spike Jonze is an adaptation from a classic children's book of the same name:

The book tells the story of Max, who one evening plays around his home, "making mischief" in a wolf costume (chasing the dog with a fork,and growling at his mom etc.). As punishment, his mother sends him to bed without supper. In his room, a mysterious, wild forest grows out of his imagination, and Max journeys to the land of the Wild Things. The Wild Things are fearsome-looking monsters, but Max conquers them "by staring into their yellow eyes without blinking once," and he is made "the King of all Wild Things." However, he soon finds himself lonely and homesick, and he returns home to his bedroom, where he finds his supper waiting for him, still hot.

The film at this point is in post production stages, with no set release date. But peep a short clip below:

FILM: INGLORIOUS BASTARDS

Inglorious Bastards is a 1978 Italian film directed by Enzo G. Castellari. Originally titled "Quel maledetto treno blindato"(literally translated as That damned armored train and released as in the USA under the Bastard's title. Starring Bo Svenson, Peter Hooten, Fred Williamson, Michael Pergolani, and Jackie Basehart.

Set in Europe during World War II, a group of American soldiers are in the process of being shipped off to military prison for a variety of infractions, ranging from desertion to murder. While they're being transported, a German air attack hits the convoy, killing most of the MPs and enabling five of the prisoners to escape. The group decides their best bet is to head to neutral Switzerland, where they can avoid the fighting and prison. As they make their way to what they think will be freedom, they end up volunteering for a commando mission to steal the new prototype gyroscope for the Nazi V2 with help of the French Underground. Somehow the team must sneak onto the most heavily guarded train in German territory, steal the Nazis' most precious military hardware, and bring it back to the Allies without getting arrested again by their own side.

Quentin Tarantino did a remake of this film that'll be out this summer.

This is his first film since his Grindhouse collaboration with Robert Rodriguez. With Brad Pitt taking on a role in the upcoming flick it'll be exciting to see what Mr. Tarantino has up his sleeve with this one...peep the trailer below

As a director I look at music videos as a way of pushing boundaries visually and artistically on a smaller scale than a feature or short. Only some artist have the videos that actually do so...Kanye West is one of em' . His latest for his song "Welcome to Heartbreak" uses a weird effect that I slept on til just this morning. The effect is pretty much summed up in the title of this post, it is also used in Chairlift's "Evident Utensil", peep both vids below and see for yourself....

Last night I watched most of The Golden Globes, cheering on Mickey Rourke for his best actor win for The Wrestler, laughing at Tracy's Morgan 30 Rock acceptance speech, and thinking what I will wear when I get there.....One thing I unfortunately missed was the Best Picture win for Slumdog Millionaire. I've been hearing great things about this film since it played at the Chicago International Film Festival last year....

Slumdog is the story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show's questions. Each chapter of Jamal's increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show's seemingly impossible quizzes. With all the Oscar buzz still floating around after the nominations come out, Im excited to see another film emerge. NOTORIOUS, the autobiographical film of Christopher "The Notorious B.I.G." Wallace is set to release January 16. The film will be a sight to see as I was a witness to the icon's music growing up in the mid-90's, and always been a fan, not to mention we have the same birthday. Trailer below.

Fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld has directed a high-budget 10-minute short film to pay homage to French fashion pioneer Coco Chanel. This glamorous silent film has premiered last week in Paris at the Le Ranelagh theater. Edita Vilkeviciute will portray the young Coco from 1913, when the legendary designer first set up shop. Along with Vilkeviciute, the film will feature model Brad Koenig, Lady Amanda Harlech and the actual workers from the Chanel atelier used as actors to keep the authenticity to the visuals. The mini-film was shot in two days outside of a Paris movie studio.

PXL THIS is a festival that features videos produced using the PXL 2000, a plastic toy video camera that records sound and images directly onto audiocassettes. The PXL 2000 was available from 1987 to 1989 from Fisher-Price. The picture is comprised of 2,000 "pixels" as opposed to the 150,000 pixels seen on the average TV screen, which makes for a very grainy but appealing quality. PXL THIS organizer Gerry Fialka says, "PXL is the essential utensil of creation. The really creative artist does a lot with nothing. PXL THIS is based on the statements, 'It is literally possible to do more with less' -Buckminster Fuller and 'Film will only become art when its materials are as inexpensive as pencil and paper' -Jean Cocteau. It's a real pencil and paper mentality. Express yourself, and don't be afraid to break some rules. Like Cocteau said, "What one should do with the young is to give them a portable camera and forbid them to observe any rules except those they invent for themselves as they go along. Let them write without being afraid of making mistakes.' But PXL THIS is for all ages."

This was the last day of shooting the short film directed by Xotichil Vargas. The film tells the true story of a recovering meth addict. Shot by Mike Herrera, we filmed in the small town of Markstown, Indiana. I co-produced and AD'd (...and even made a small cameo) can't wait to see the cut.

So Im sitting in the office last week, and I came across this doc, picked it up, watched it....and I think this is one of the best documentaries I ever seen.

It tells the story of former Chicago gang-leader Noonie G, narrated by Kanye & Common, this documentary had everything I wanted to see. It gave you the history of the Chicago gang culture and was filmed by Chicago filmmakers and some of my idols Coodie & Chike, and Frey Hoffman. Circa 2006, See it if you can.

I previously visited the neighborhood I grew up in "Englewood", on the southside of Chicago.

I was in the neighborhood to work on a video project with students from Englewood High School.

The project addresses the recent rise in gun violence with over 21 public school children killed in this semester alone. I feel this needs to be addressed and im thankful to be given the opportunity to work on this project. Stay Tuned.

Yesterday morning I woke up as she turned on the news, I turned over as a reporter reported on schools that had been closed due to harmful threats, I laughed. I knew that school threats had become something that people took for granted. Anybody could've been calling in and making any type of ridiculous statements. I had class at 2, I almost missed my stop getting off the train, I was already 10 min. late then I got to the door.

I couldnt believe it, I think im going to make a movie about this.

I saw this on a art auction site (capucinesboulevard.com) and couldnt believe it.

The creator of these works of art is Quinn Gregory.

"While the artist was a lawyer for several years; approximately four years ago he was diagnosed with a rare heart disease. This diagnosis altered Quinn’s life in many ways. Naturally, it forced Quinn to focus on death and how our Society deals with death. Quinn strongly believes that our bodies are merely shells we use while here on Earth (nothing more or less). He believes that the human skeleton is innately beautiful. He also loves the extremes of death (in the form of a human skull) and bejeweling it with colorful Swarovski Crystals. Each original and limited Quinn Gregory Skull contains somewhere between 8,500 to 12,500 crystals. Each skull is obviously unique and ‘re-named’ by the artist. FILM: Flashing Lights Music Video

So today i saw the new Kanye vid for the song 'Flashing Lights'. I been anticipating this video since I heard he was doing it, along with that he got Spike Jonze to direct it. But then I watched it....

Creatively I see where Kanye is trying to take the art of music videos. But as a fan I hated this vid. It could've been so much more. Where's the flickering lights? the neon lights? the glow in the dark performance shot? All the things I wanted and waited to see. I searched all over to see if there was an alternate cut, but nothing. This video just raised the bar for me as a director.

This morning I woke up to news of this years Academy Award nominees I must say Im happy No Country for Old Men got major nods, along with Vigo Mortossen for Eastern Promises and Ruby Dee for American Gangster. But after Kathy Bates and some Academy head finished the announcements. My excitement turned sour as I came to realize that one movie had been completely and suprisingly absent from the nominees. THE GREAT DEBATERS. Correct me if Im wrong but normally the movies that tend to get the nomination are end of the year hits. Which the Great Debaters was even though it had a slow opening at the box office. But this movie was critically acclaimed, its not a review I read that didnt give it four stars. I was going to write a review for the Pub Report but it was already written before my hands could touch the keyboard. Thats how much it inspired people. This was an important film, and a very good one at that. Im starting to think politics played a role in this, seeing how its produced by Oprah, but maybe Im crazy. Im not trying to discredit any of the other nominees from what I saw they were all good films, im still excited to see There Will Be Blood which I think will compete heavy with No Country, with Atonement maybe popping up somewhere in there. But there could've been room for one more.

On Tuesday I went to check out fellow filmmaker Michel Gondry at the Apple Store. He was showing new clips of his new movie Be Kind, Rewind starring Jack Black and Mos Def. The movie is going to be hilarious.. they (Black&Def) have to remake all these classic movies (ghostbusters, rush hour, driving ms. daisy) after they get magnetized. It hits theatres Feb. 22

Life is good. Its a new year. Wu-Tang has just released another album. Soulja Boy is at the top of the charts, we are close to seeing the First Black President and im ready to progress in 2008. Every year gets better. I was proud in 2007 to establish new relationships, receive new opportunities, and experience new and exciting things that will all build me as an individual. I learn something new everyday so after I recover from the party I'll be picking up where I left off in 07.

The snow is back. Along with the sleet, puddles, and chilling winds. I love this time of the year, its something you can only really experience in Chicago. No other winter is like this. From chilly, to cold, to freezing the temperatures fall with the flakes. It gets better every year.
